Kevin Dessert comforts a dying hog that he raised for nine months prior on a farm outside of Mebane, NC. The motivation for Dessert and others who joined together and raised the hogs was to create a ecologically responsible, local food source in their community - a viable alternative to the environmentally disastrous, mass produced hog industry that dominates the region.
